			<description>&#60;p&#62;I work and commute for a good portion of my day, so being &#34;green&#34; isn't always easy.  I've made a few small changes that is my attempt to be a bit more earth conscious: &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;- Klean Kanteen instead of plastic cups&#60;br /&#62;
- Brought my own silverware and bowl (for cereal) from home, instead of using plastic&#60;br /&#62;
- Always turn my lights, computer, monitor, and speakers off at the end of the day (surprisingly not many people do this)&#60;br /&#62;
- Recycle everything, whenever possible&#60;br /&#62;
- Always take public transportation or walk to work

			<title>mike on "Composting with the NatureMill Indoor Composter Update"</title>
			<link>http://evergreensessions.com/forum/topic.php?id=3#post-4</link>

			<description>&#60;p&#62;It's been a few months since I posted about the Naturemill Indoor Composter that I purchased.  I wanted to post an update to my initial post over on the blog.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;As I mentioned in my first post about the composter, I have the composter in a fairly small apartment.  After using it for a few loads of compost the smell became pretty bad, to the point where I decided to move the composter downstairs to a storage unit that I have access to.  The apartment smells much better and now only the storage room smells a bit, but that's ok.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I composted a whole bunch of food in the composter my first few months.  I find myself cleaning house in my fridge every so many weeks and just dumping a whole bunch of old food into the composter.  It's obviously less convenient having the composter outside of the apartment, but I still get a good amount of food in it.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I ended up giving about three or four batches of compost to a family member for a garden they were growing.  The compost, both while decomposing and after, smells pretty bad, but then again it is compost.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;img src=&#34;http://picstant.com/images/IMG_9384_20100526180355_m.jpg&#34; /&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Overall, it's great knowing that I'm not just dumping my food in the garbage and that I can use it for some good use.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The only thing really holding be back on going all-in with this composter is that you have to plug it in.  I think I can find a place near my apartment to fit an outdoor composter if it's small enough and the smell isn't terribly strong.  &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I'm curious to hear about other composters that are non-electric-based. I've been reading about one that is a hand crank -- you turn it once a day and that's enough for the compost to break down over a period of time. No electricity, just one turn a day. Anyone use this or other small composters?
